Glossybox, a much talked about topic, In my opinion it is a very hit or miss beauty box to sign up to.
Lets compare two boxes, the 'Valentines' box and the Feb box.
First up Valentines.
Containing;
Eyeko Skinny Eyeliner in Emerald - £9.50
What they say, 'Definition and intense colour with a long lasting finish.'
This is not my colour and highly I'm unlikely to use it, but a nice colour if you like green eyeliner.
Clarins Extra Firming Day Cream (15ml) - £46.50 for 50ml & Clarins Extra Firming Night Cream (15ml) - £48.00 for 50ml
What they say, 'Intensive skin renewal complex infusing skin with firming benefits that are immediate and long lasting.'
I actually love these creams, they smell amazing and really left my skin feeling soft and happy, plus I got ID'd for alcohol so many times since using them I can only assume they are making me look younger than my *cough* years.
I know a lot of people didn't receive full samples but I did and they lasted me a good three weeks using daily. Although the Extra Firming range isn't for my age group its made me want to look into other Clarins face creams. These were a massive WIN in my book.
FAB Body Wash (56.7g) - £10.00 for 226.8g
What they say, 'The ultimate travel companion for all skin types that provides irritant free cleansing and hydration.'
Personally this just bored me, it smells of.... nothing and did little to excite me at all. I might use it when (if) I ever run out of everything else first.
And lastly, Murad Skin Perfecting Primer (5ml) - £29.00 for 30ml
What they say, 'Oil free primer for a radiant glow, powered by light enhancing minerals.'
I swatched this and promptly had a heart attack because it was orange, but I have been advised that it sinks into the skin and doesn't look orange once fully blended.
So two out of five isn't bad I guess, the Clarins items made this box for me, and I'm intrigued by the Murad primer.
Now the Feb box,
Express Style by Paul Mitchell (25ml) - £12.95 for 200ml
A curl definer, now I like Paul Mitchell products, but yours truly has poker straight hair so this is a BIG fail for me.
Dr. Bronners Magic Soap Hemp Rose £4.99 for 59ml (which this is)
Sounds great 18 in 1 soap, I got a little concerned when I read the label and it states (I quote)
'Within 9 minutes you feel fresh and clean, saving 90% of your hot water and soap, ready to help teach the whole human race the moral ABC of All-One-God-Faith....'
I wasn't expecting a little sermon on my soap to be honest.
Como Shambhala Invigorate Lotion, had it before and was bored of it then. Doesn't help I picked up a set of these from a hotel I stayed at once either.. Nice smell, but not what I expect from a 'luxury box'.
DuWop Venom Gloss in Buttercup (5ml) - £16 for 10.4ml.
I don't like things that tingle and I hate the smell of cinnamon so FAIL for me.
And lastly, BM Beauty Mineral Eyeshadow in Noir (Black to you and me)
Meh... just meh.
So all in all a very hit or miss experience. I loved the Clarins, didn't mind the Murad, would have loved the Paul Mitchell if it wasn't for curly hair and am intrigued by the soap (even with the sermon attached)
£12.95 a month.
Is it worth it to you?

Religious soap! Who knew!xx
ReplyDeleteI cancelled my Glossybox subscription because it was TOO hit or miss for me.
ReplyDeleteI did use the Murad from my box once and I blended it and blended it and blended it and my face was still orange (though I am ridiculously pale).
I'm going to sign up to a different brand now.
This is the reason, I've not joined up. Would you sell your Eyeko liner? :)
ReplyDeleteI got the exact same valentines box as you, and I absolutely loved the Clarins products, even though they arn't for my age range either, if the full sizes wern't so expensive, i'd definately get them.
ReplyDeleteThe Murad primer, was a WIN for me, I am extremely pale, and it blended perfectly into my skin, I now wear it alone, with a bit of powder.
The March box however, was a complete disappointment. I got the Impress, press on nails, which I loved, but it was the only product in this months box that i'll probably use.
I've got a Joliebox on its way, so i'm really looking forward to it. Hoping it's a little better. Although, I get that your not ALWAYS gonna get everything you like. That's all part of the surprise.
Sorry this comment, it alot longer than I had planned.
I haven't received this months box yet but I'm not looking forward to it!
ReplyDeleteI got the exact same box as you this month and it's been a hit for me with the exception of the Bronner soap. I love the soap but the box looked so bare!
ReplyDeleteI really think these boxes are hit and miss, sometimes you get really great products (dec box) and then I find you get a box like this months which is a let down.

Id love to know what the Murad product is like!
ReplyDeletei just signed up and am giving it 3 month trial...if most of the boxes are rubbish am moving to carmine i think.
ReplyDeleteI am sodesperate to try the 18-in-1 soap. The sermon on the bottle thing doesn't bother me, it's just a bit of typing, hoever I'd be doing my research into the company before I buy, just to make sure profits aren't going into anything dodgy. 18-in-1 soap is meant to be amazing though, the ultimate travel companion, you can use it to wash your face, your hair, your body, brush yur teeth with it, even wash your clothes with it if you need to!
ReplyDeleteThe novelty of beauty boxes really seems to be wearing off now, and I think unless the boxes can really tailor themselves to your preferences and needs, they're not really going to survive. Maybe if they tailored your box so your received more makeup than skincare, if that was your pref, and ordered a variety of samples so that they could try and give colours that people prefer, samples for skin types that suit, than people would maintain interest in them. Anyone agree?

I've never heard of this service before, but that's a nice selection of goodies you received! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThe whole point of the boxes was that they'd be tailored to you the individual yet obviously there not. I know I filled out a form about my preferences and skin/hair type. So to receive things that are obviously no good for me is bad service imo
ReplyDeleteI think you've hit the nail on the head right there.
DeleteThere is no tailoring at all. Their best bet is to just do 5 items and there would be less moaning
I really enjoyed the Valentine's box, but the Feb one was horrendous. I don't get the Dr Bronners brand at all, 18-in-1 soap?! What does that even mean!?
ReplyDeleteI like the look of the green eyeliner!
