Ever dyed your hair to dark at home then wished almost immediately you could strip the colour?
That's kind of what I did after several months of box dye on top of box dye, I went from a bright red to a much darker, almost brown, red.
After bemoaning this on twitter I was contacted by the team at Colour B4 asking me if I wanted to give their product a try and of course I jumped at the chance.
What is Colour B4?
"Colour B4 hair colour remover is the safest and most effective way to reverse an undesirable hair colour application. Colour B4 shrinks the artificial dye molecules in the hair, enabling you to simply wash them away. What's more Colour B4 does not touch your natural hair pigment so you are left with the colour which lay beneath your artificial shade." Read more...
So I received one box of Hair Colour Remover.
Which contained these three bottles, A, B and C. It's fairly straight forward, you mix A + B then apply to DRY hair and leave for the length of time you need to. (Explained on the instructions) I left mine on for an hour. Then several lots of rinsing and using bottle C and you're done.
What I found strange was the fact the water ran clear from the start, I was expecting to see colour actually running off with the water, but it didn't.

Here is my hair colour before using Colour B4.
And after using Colour B4.
Amazing, and it contains NO bleach or anything.
I'd like to point out though red colourant is very hard to remove completely especially if like me you've gone from blonde to red, as you can see I've got staining of the cuticle and I've gone slightly ginger. But as I wished only to lighten/brighten my red and not remove it completely I'm very happy with this result.
The only thing I will say is it really, really smells bad. But I was informed that salon colour removers smell worse... (ewww)
Colour B4 is £9.99 from their website, I would check Boots website but it's down... Well worth the money. I went out and bought a second box for the next dye disaster I have. Best be prepared.

I used this and almost identical results! With the same hair colour too! haha I wanted to go Orange but after using the Mango shade Feria dye it went just brown, I think the colour b4 made my hair way more absorbent afterwards!
ReplyDeleteIt was a time before I took up blogging properly though so no pics!

Actually that's seriously impressive I've had a few dodgy colour experiences and often looked at this wondering what it was like. Great to see a review. Did it hurt your hair condition or anything?

My hair felt drier than normal for a few days and I suffer with somewhat greasy hair, so I think if you had dry hair to start with be careful with this. But otherwise my hair was fine.

I'm so excited you posted this!! I read reviews but I didn't know any of the bloggers so I was wary of their opinions and they never posted after pics.
ReplyDeleteI'm planning on going a brown with blond type thing (like mariah from corrie) but my hair is almost black from all the hair dye buildup over the years. Going to get a bottle of this tomorrow! Excited.
I have heard it smells like rotten eggs so my bf and housemate will be raging. Might have to sit on the bathroom window sill with my head outside for an hour.

I neeeeeed this! I was umming and ahhing because of the price (its £12.35 a bottle for the one I need and I need two) but my greys are driving me mad while I grow out my black!
ReplyDeleteIt does stink I will give it that. But it did a pretty good job on my hair as you can see :)
ReplyDeleteI have been desperate to lift mine from brown for months, but I've received mixed reviews on how it works on hair that isn't in tip-top condition, and also what condition it leaves your hair in. I've read very very good reviews and as I'm not exactly a hairdye novice I understand how it works etc, but I'm still unsure. I've already contacted the team for ColourB4 and sadly haven't received any reply from them for my questions, I even sent in a wee picture of my hair haha!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great review - I've been wanting to use this for a while now and you've convinced me that I should! x
ReplyDeleteI was wondering, do you know if you can dye your hair again after? mines is a dark red just just now and I want it a dark copper, so this would probably bring it up too light, but just when you mentioned you wanted yours a lighter red I wasn't sure if you'd dyed over it after using the product or not :)

you can dye your hair again after but they recommend leaving it a few days and using a dye lighter than you actually want as your hair will soak up the colour.

Wow. Seriously wow - Colour B4 should use those pics on their advertising, I had never envisaged it would be that effective and your hair doesn't look trashed at all either, which I would have assumed would have been the downside if the product was going to work this well. Result!
ReplyDeleteJust a slight heads up, if your hair was dark before and you try to colour your hair immediately after using Colour B4 it will go very dark, and not the colour you were hoping, and most hair salons including Toni & Guy will NOT touch your hair if you have used this. My friend used this on hers and her hair isn't in great condition now, I'd recommend going to a proper salon. I had mine lifted from black to bright red professionally, didn't cost as much as you'd think, and at least stylists can still colour over it! Glad it worked for you, just passing on something my friend learnt the hard way!

That's truly impressive! I'm thinking of going back to my natural colour relatively soon, so this would be a good purchase (:

Wow, that is an impressive result! I've only heard bad things about colourB4 - but this makes me think again!

Wow this is great! How long did you leave it? 30 or 60 mins? And do you think it is okay to get blonde highlights immediately after? I'm going from the exact same red back to blonde (it was highlighted blonde previously)
ReplyDelete@HannahCochrane I left it on for an hour :)
