17's A Woman Scorned Revenge NOTD

Just a quickie NOTD post today using one of the 17 Woman Scorned nail polishes I got sent.

I've already covered Sulk, the middle polish in a delicious shade of green, and today's polish is Revenge, the lovely purple on the left.

Isn't this a gorgeous shade?

I have heard tales it, along with Barry M's Dusky Mauve, is a dupe for Chanel's Paradoxal.

Not being a lucky owner of the Chanel polish I can't compare them but check this out..

It's very close isn't it and at £2.99 for 8ml from Boots, it's highly affordable. If you haven't got this already I'd recommend it. It's gorgeous on, the photo's don't do it any justice.

Sleek Face Contour Kit in Light

Carrying on from yesterday I have another Sleek product from my little win something I've not really thought about trying before but now I have one I will. And that is a face contouring powder.

Oh and look here's the one I won earlier....

Contouring is used to create illusions without resorting to cosmetic surgery. So with a kit like this you could, make your cheeks look sharper, your nose thinner, jaw sharper. That kind of thing.

'As a general rule, light colours highlight an area, calling attention to it and making it appear more prominent (good for brow bones and cheekbones). Dark shadows create the illusion of a shadow and make areas of the face appear to recede (good for droopy lids and puffy undereyes).'

The face contour kit I have is, luckily for me in light. Which means the dark shade won't be to dark, as I guess you all know by now I'm rather pale.

I especially like the highlighter colour, it has a nice shimmer to it and is something I can easily see myself using. (perhaps more often than the shading side to be honest)

I haven't had the chance yet to try this out, but rest assured I shall be bringing a FOTD out using this product so you can all see how it looks and how bad my contouring skills are.

Sleek Winnings. Papaya Punch Matte Lipstick

I won Kat's giveaway a little while ago which consisting of her favourite Sleek products in a lovely pink lined box, unfortunately I was away for a little while after winning so haven't got to play with it till now.

Of course I did have to take this photo and then remember the pout polish wasn't in it... So yes I have got a Pout Polish in Pink Cadillac as well, so just add that to the picture for me will you.

Anyway I decided to play with the lipstick first, isn't it a lovely colour. It's a True Colour lipstick in Papaya Punch, a matte shade. Very bright and cheerful.

And am I the only one who thinks this is almost a dupe for Revlon's Strawberry Suede matte lipstick? I'd say Papaya Punch is a tiny bit more orange and Strawberry Suede is more reddish but it's a close call.

Revlon Strawberry Suede at the top.
Sleek Papaya Punch at the bottom.

Close right?

Septembers Boudoir Prive

The second Boudoir Prive box arrived recently and like many others I have my own thoughts on it.

Still well gift wrapped and I love the magnetic boxes, I have plans for those as I'm contemplating making jewellery... handy storage boxes no?

Okay so this month there was a Zoya nail polish, I got mine in Jem, which I personally think is the best choice of all the colours it could be. I know this because a little swatch booklet came with it showing the other Zoya colours off.

A sample of Agent Provocateur L'Agent perfume I haven't smelt yet as I'm still full of cold. A sample of Blot & Bronze, which... blots oily skin and bronzes it I assume, not really my thing as I never use bronzer.

Then there's body scrub mini by Tropic which smells very fresh like lemons, now it says Body Smooth on the pot but the little info booklet says to rub it into your hands, so I guess it can be used as either. Packed full with Jojoba and Macadamia oil it sounds like it should be very moisturising.

A mini Macadamia hair oil thing, I'm not hugely keen. My hair's fine and limp enough without extra oil.

What else... ah yes a mini Colbert eye cream.. which I've just read costs £90 for 15ml.... not sure how much is in this pot but I'd say at least 5ml. Used by HRH Kate Middleton who am I to argue (I'm a fan)

And lastly but by no means least the Cargo Boogie Nights eye pencil, very sparkly. Not sure I'd want to put it on my lower lids as it suggests due to the glitter in it.. but it'd look good on a night out on my upper eyelids I'm sure.

Am I pleased with this months box.... well, I LOVE the Zoya polish worth £9.98 on it's own, so at £10 for the whole box it's worth it. Plus I don't mind trying very expensive eye cream..

So far so good.

What do you think of Boudoir Prive if you're a subscriber?

17 A Woman Scorned. Eyeshadow Trios

Just before I went away I got a few surprise goodies in the post. I do love surprises and this one consisted of the Boots 17 Autumn collection.

As I've recently painted my nails a gorgeous colour (Revlon Facets of Fuchia) I'm not about to re-paint them to show the 17 nail polishes just yet. So today's post is the eye shadows of which I received three trios. Enraged a gold/copper based trio, Vengence a purple/silver based trio (spelling correct according to the label...I call typo tbh) and Broken Hearted a green/silver based trio that arrived broken... sadly.

First up I have.. Enraged.

Absolutely stunning colours, very densely packed with pigment. It took very little to get a gorgeous deep colour with each swatch. I love this trio!

Next up I have.. Vengence
(And I typed that exactly from the label so all spelling mistakes are not my own)

Fairly decent colour pay off, not as good as Enraged though, the purple looks more brown to me and the lilac is more silver. But still not bad.

And lastly we have Broken Hearted my broken trio.

The silver, which was the smashed one, is amazing. Very densely pigmented and very silver. The grey shade is more green than the green shade which looks almost peacock green in the pan but came out more muddy green/brown on my skin. Bit of a disappointment there.

£5.49 available from Boots.

Liz Earle Foot Scrub

As the season gets colder and we turn to wearing tights and thick socks again, our feet stuffed into boots all day long, what better time is it than foot pamper time?

I was sent Liz Earle's Foot Scrub so that I could pamper my poor misused tootsies a bit.

"This hard-working scrub gently exfoliates hard, rough skin on heels and soles, leaving feet ultra-soft and buffed to perfection.

Massage daily onto damp skin, concentrating on dry areas such as heels, toes and balls of your feet.

Naturally active ingredients include natural pumice to remove dead skin cells, softening avocado and wheatgerm oils rich in vitamin E, and the invigorating aromas of peppermint and rosemary essential oils."

I even started off by scrubbing one foot and not the other so I could compare how they felt. Let's put it this way, my scrubbed foot felt like it was walking on clouds, my un-scrubbed foot did not.

It has a very clean, fresh scent. Perfect for me at the moment as I have a cold and this contains peppermint and rosemary essential oils, not only great for revitalising and refreshing tired feet. But also brilliant for stuffy heads.

It takes quite a lot of squeezing to get the cream/product out of the tube as it is very thick, and very densely packed with lovely scrubby pumice.

I only worked it into my tootsies for a minute or so, then rinsed off with warm water and my little toes were in heaven. It didn't immediately get rid of the tougher skin on my heels (the Liz Earle website itself says for best results use a foot file beforehand), but with prolonged use I'd say it would reduce hard skin due to the serious level of grittiness combined with the softening aspects of the avocado oil.

I'm afraid there are no photos of my feet for you to see, I wouldn't inflict that on your poor eyes.

Aqua (water), Pumice, Tetradecyloctadecyl stearate, Persea gratissima (avocado) oil, Cetearyl alcohol, Vitellaria paradoxa (shea butter), Triticum vulgare (wheat) germ oil, Caprylic/capric triglyceride, Kaolin, Sodium polyacrylate, Mentha piperita (peppermint) oil, Mentha viridis (spearmint) leaf oil, Rosmarinus officinalis (rosemary) oil, Lavandula hybrida (lavandin) oil, Juniperus virginiana (virginian cedarwood) oil, Artemesia vulgaris (armoise) leaf oil, Pogostemon cablin (patchouli) oil, Thymus vulgaris (thyme) oil, Eucalyptus globulus (eucalyptus) oil, Cetearyl olivate, Sorbitan olivate, Hydrogenated olive oil, Olea europaea (olive) fruit oil, Olea europaea (olive) fruit unsaponifiables, Tocopherol (vitamin E), Xanthan gum, Trisodium ethylenediamine disuccinate, Aspartic acid, Sodium chloride, Sodium hydroxide, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Benzoic acid, Dehydroacetic acid, Linalool, Limonene

Available from the Liz Earle website £10.75 for 100ml

Picture show and tell.

As I pointed out yesterday I am back... and I am ill. So instead of an in-depth beauty post (sorry) I thought I'd pop a few pictures from my holiday up and show a few items I got that will feature in future posts on my blog.

We went to visit Attingham Hall and Gardens, which was very interesting. And they had an orchard with chickens in... loved it.

I also popped into Birmingham... ah lovely Birmingham

Where I picked up a few jumpers, this one I'm wearing from Forever21 and another three you see in the picture below.

I also got some Naked skin and haircare, look out for that in future.

And what's in this bag?
It's one of the items for my giveaway next month... so stay tuned for that.

And that as they say is that.

I do hope this bug I've got goes soon, as I feel really rotten and can't concentrate well

Scarlet Pout's Guest Post: Red Lipstick Addict.

My last guest poster this week is Amii of Scarlet Pout fame, so over to Amii..

I'm Amii, and I'm a red lipstick addict. I've resolved not to buy any more until I've finshed the ones I have, and I'd say I'm doing pretty well! I've decided to pick my favourite four out of the bunch and how they suit different budgets.

L-R: MUA shade 8, MUA shade 1, Revlon in "Firecracker", and Maybelline Superstay in Alarm.

£1: First up, The MUA lipstick in shade 8. It's a bright red with pink-ish tones...and glitter! But it's not horribly grainy like some glittered ones are, it's lovely and creamy and has pretty decent staying power.

MUA in shade 1 is a darker red, it gives more of a 1930's flapper-girl feel, very glamorous and mysterious! Which is great if you feel like bright red's are too preppy and pin-up for the look you're aiming for. Again, it's creamy, yet it has a matte finish to it, and has even better staying power than the shade 8. Fantastic considering these lipsticks are only £1 each!

L-R: Maybelline, Revlon, MUA 1, MUA 8 £5:

Revlon aren't a cosmetics company I normally find myself drawn to, and this lipstick was an impulse buy. I'd left my old faithful NYC one at home (which they've sadly discontinued!) and was racing around Superdrug with a spare fiver before a night out for a new lippie, and grabbed this because I liked the case...and the colour's gorgeous as well!

It's a very bright, orange-toned red, and the formula is gorgeously rich and creamy, it goes on like a dream...my only fault with it is it can feather out quicker than most lipsticks I own, but a bit of lipliner halts that in its tracks!

£10: And finally, the most costly of the four, the Maybelline...I felt like treating myself, and WOW was it a treat! It comes in two separate pieces, a little lipgloss-like brush for the red formula, and you pop that on your lips. It's very weird, it's liquid, but it doesn't feel lightweight at first like a lipgloss, it feels instantly heavy and dry, and you have to wait until it starts to dry in which leaves your lips looking awful at first.

Scared yet? Don't be! At the other end of the tube is a little nourishing stick...smear that on, and be prepared for (quite literally) 24 hour lip colour! I can drink, have a cheeky fag, steal a kiss, and the lipstick will still survive that and a night of drunkenly smearing my face on my covers while I'm in the fetal position. So there you go, four fantastic lipcolours to suit all different budgets!

Thank you Amii for that useful post.

I hope you all enjoyed the guest post series I've run this week while I'm off having fun with my mum. I'll be back tomorrow, so stay tuned.

Lucyy Writes, Guest Post Dainty Doll Eyeshadow.

Day three of my guest post series (while I'm on holiday) and today's contributor is Lucy from Lucyy Writes

So over too her;

Hello! I've been given the chance to guest blog on 'Ms Red's' blog, one of the first blogs I started following! So I snapped it up. I suck at introductions, so you can find me over on my blog, here

This week I was lucky enough to win one of the Dainty Doll giveaway's on twitter! Very surprised since I never win anything! I ended up winning two giveaway's this week! The prize arrived the next day. I was secretly hoping it would be a blusher or an eye shadow.

The post arrived, I received one dainty doll eyeshadow, in 002 Treat Her Like A Lady. For anyone who hasn't heard of Dainty Doll, it is the makeup brand created by Nicola Roberts - Girls Aloud. It's designed for those of us with pale/very pale skins! I've never tried anything from this brand, despite being the palest shade of foundation 90% of the time.

Ms Red has also posted about a few Dainty Doll products she had tried back along. So I thought this product would be appropriate with both of us having pale skin! :)

Like every product, the packaging is just as important, well it is to me, it's what you see first. The packaging of dainty doll products, I really do adore! Personally I think the box is cute! It has a cartoon 'Nicola' on the front and gold text.

The product is cased in plain black plastic with matching text to the box. Inside is a mirror, I really like this idea, it's not a cheap crappy mirror you sometimes get. And the eyeshadow has that satisfying click when closed, like most 'higher' end products. On the packaging front this has full marks! I love the simpleness and the cartoon character.

However, the product doesn't quite live up to my love of the packaging. I don't want to sound ungrateful, because I don't completely hate this product, I just think it needs some improvement for me to purchase anymore for £11 a time. I love that I got sent the 'neutral' shade, since I only really wear neutrals. And I love the colour in the pan.

Outside the pan...not so much. I've used brushes, cheap applicators and fingers, and the colour still comes out the colour of dust rather than the taupe colour in the pan....and is so hard to build up. To get any colour to really show I'm sure you'd have to pack on half of this shadow. Such a shame because as I've said, in the pan I love the shade.

For an eyeshadow that is said to be a makeup artists must have and favourite and so heavily pigmented I'm a little disappointed. This really isn't highly pigmented. I also find it annoying how a eyeshadow priced at £11 has talc as the first ingredient listed. 'Treat Her Like A Lady' is said to flatter and intensifies every one's eye colour.

How it really intensifies eye colour is beyond me as it doesn't even show up. Which is slightly worrying as these products are designed for paler skin and I'm very pale, colours are going to show up more! The eyeshadow's I've won from MUA this week are so much more pigmented in one light swatch and sell from £1.

The swatches don't really show up well in the photos I took, so I won't bother putting these on! It'd be basically just my arm. One thing they got right is it is, perfect for getting a smooth application. And how it's supposed to get rid of wrinkles is beyond me, because every plastic surgeon in the world would be out of business. Oh and soothes tired eyes and protects skin....no.

Personally if I had purchased this with my own money rather than winning it, I'd be very disappointed! The whole pigmentation is putting me off from trying any more of these eyeshadows and from trying the blushes. I'm tempted to order a blush off Look Fantastic, since they give you £5 off your first order, but I don't want to be stuck with another product that is unnoticeable.

I won't rule out this brand completely just yet, because there are a few good reviews floating around, mostly about the wonder balm and foundations. But I would rule out eyeshadows from Dainty Doll. Compared to the packaging that I'd give a 10, I'd give the actual product a 4....it does look pretty in the pan and goes on smoothly, I just wish it'd show up!

Bristolian Blonde Guest Post. Top Lip Products.

Another lovely guest poster while I'm off in Birmingham with my mum, today we're hearing from Sophie of Bristolian Blonde fame.

Over to Sophie,

My Top Lip Products...

I'm not a girl who would spend huge amounts of money on lip products, because I don't wear them that often, but when I do wear them I always have my favourite four to wear. They are great for all seasons, and all occasions. These products are drugstore, and are easily available. They aren't overly expensive, and I have re-bought these on many occasions.

So the first product, (I do wear this everyday! :P) is my lip balm, from The Body Shop. It's in Raspberry flavor, (I hate raspberries, but love the smell, weird I know!)

I really do love this, as it hydrates your lips and also adds some shine, it's really good as it kind of acts as a lip gloss too, Bonus!

This lip balm is so easy to carry around, as it's so small and compact, but don't be afraid, it still contain A LOT of product!

Now for the lipstick!

Now as you can see these are quite cheap brands, but don't be put off by the price, they are very good quality!

Firstly I have MUA in shade 11, and I love this colour, just to brighten it a bit and to fit with my skin tone I add some of the natural collection, rose petal. These colours together fit so well!

Both of these lips ticks are so smooth, and creamy, they are my go-to-gals! haha....

Lastly is my lip gloss, Rimmel London, Vinyl Gloss. It's just a really nice light pink colour, it adds a a lovely shine to your lips without going over the top.

The only down side is that it's sticky, and with a long fringe the hair-stuck-to-lip is not a good look, but except from that I love this gloss.

Thanks for reading, and thanks so much to Ms Red for letting me post onto her blog, and if you'd like to see more check out my blog click here

Another lovely post, thank you Sophie for helping me fill blank spots during my holiday.

Beauty & Reverie Guest Post. L.A. Colors

As I am on holiday this week I asked around Twitter for people willing to guest post for me, my first victi... I mean very friendly helper is Jenny from Beauty and Reverie

Over to Jenny...

When I picked up this palette, I was trying to find out if I could get decent pigmentation and interesting shades on a budget. Oh and when I say on a budget, I’d like to add that I bought it in a 99p store!

I suppose this purchase says a lot about me because when I say I like low budget products – I mean very low budget! I had been looking at Sleek palettes that day so when I stumbled upon this LA Colors 5 colour metallic eyeshadow palette in ‘Wildflowers,’ I wanted to see if I could get some similarly bright eyeshadows for a fraction of the price.

The packaging is... well, it’s definitely not as sleek as other brands and I’m sure you can see that the shadows themselves are very dusty. Upon even a very close inspection I think you’d be justified in expecting a fairly naff product, but that’s where I was pleasantly surprised!

Although they are dusty once you get past, that the eyeshadows are easily buildable. I’ve not worn them with primer and I’ve still seen hours of good wear on a night out.

I do use the applicator provided most of the time but it’s rather scratchy considering it’s mostly made of sponge! Although I went for some pretty dramatic shades in the palette I chose, there were plenty of slightly tamer combinations available.

The most pigmented shade by far is the cranberry red which is the second from the right in the palette. The least I’d say would be the orange shade which I normally substitute for a gold metallic shade by Collection 2000.

Finally I’d add that the pink on the far right is definitely worn best when contrasted with a slightly darker plum shade. Although this product is supposedly ‘metallic’ I find the shadows lightly shimmery at most.

You won’t get that heavy a layer of these shadows but if you find some complimentary bases and highlights in your makeup bag then I do find they become infinitely more workable.

However to display that I do love these shades as they are - here is a quick look I’ve put together using only eyeshadows from the palette, a touch of MUA white eyeliner and some mascara!

Unfortunately LA Colors isn’t widely available in the UK so I’d say if you stumble across it, then it’s well worth a look.

I have since found this product (for slightly more than I paid) and many others from the brand in the online Cherry Culture store. These eyeshadows are honestly great if you’re trying out new colours and experimenting. All in all, this was 99p well spent!

Thank you Jenny for that in-depth review, and everyone pop over and check out her blog.
