A Collection of Scrubbers

Look at my tiny collection of body scrubs, and one of those a Massive disappointment too. I am ashamed of my 'collection' and must do better.

(L-R, Sanctuary Salt Scrub, Clarins Smoothing Body Scrub, Sanctuary Mela Body Scrub and Superdrugs Olive & Bergamot Body Polish)

But in the mean time here are the four I have got and have used.

First up, The Sanctuary's Salt Scrub, £1.38 per sachet or £10.20 a tub, Boots, containing Dead Sea salts mixed with Coconut, Jojoba and Sweet Almond Oils.

A very dense scrub which needs to be rubbed into wet skin for efficient movement over the body, also very messy, best used while in the bath or shower.

The salt granules really give a good scrubbing action and will remove any flaky skin while the oils the salt is suspended in will moisturise extremely well and smelling of The Sanctuary's signature scent.

So well I'd advise caution in getting out of the shower/tub after use as you get slippy, fortunately you don't remain slippy for long because once you're dry the oils have sunk into the skin and left you with super soft, glowing skin.

Next we have Clarins Smoothing Body Scrub, £27.00 Clarins, containing Bamboo powder suspended in a thick cream. This scrub isn't as 'hard core' as using salt granules, but the tiny granules in this one do give a really good scrub as they are quite 'gritty'.

Because it's a cream formula you can apply it to damp skin or to dry skin for extra exfoliation as it will move around quite readily. It also has a gentle scent that makes it a pleasant one to use.

It doesn't leave any residue on the skin so no need to take more than the normal care getting out of the shower/tub.

And so for the next scrub, The Sanctuary Mela Black Pepper & Ginger Body Scrub, £6.38 Boots.

This scrub is more gel like in consistency but no less effective as a scrub, containing black pepper, ginger and crushed coconut shells it's a nice gritty scrub that moves around quite freely. It says to apply to damp skin but I generally apply it to dry skin.

Again this doesn't leave a residue but it does leave a strong smell as it is highly fragranced. It's a nice smell, but could be overwhelming for some.

And last for a good reason, Superdrugs Olive & Bergamot Body Polish, £2.03 Superdrug.

In the shop this smelt really nice and I really looked forward to using it.

Again it's a cream based exfoliator with olive stone exfoliants, moves around the skin easily and is very gritty. It would be a good scrub but for one major flaw.

It stank.

In fact I'd go so far as to say it smells Disgusting. And I am SO disappointed, because in the shop it smelt really nice, but on the skin it's a kind of green unripened lemon odour.. which strangely enough made me think of gone off cups of tea.

Luckily it was the cheapest of the scrubs because a) I will not be using it and b) I will not buy it again.

(If you fancy trying your hand at this scrub drop me a note and it's yours.)

  2. I love the Sanctuary & Clarins scrubs, but the one I use for an intensive scrub once a week is the Body Shop Africa Spa Salt Scrub. WOW. This is amazing! Check it out next time you're in there :) x

  3. Aww your collection isn't sad! At least you have some not a lot of people do but obviously I'm trying to change that.

You have to ask yourself what you want from a body scrub and what your priorities are, price, hydration, gentle exfoliation etc. then you should be able to find what you want.

I hate cream based scrubs as you've probably realised they never seem to work.

Good post I want to see more!

  4. @Catherine I will do, sounds nice.

@SkinScrubs I'm liking the ones that exfoliate and moisturise, because I'm lazy. Good smells are a must. And preferably one that doesn't damage me. I have scratched myself quite badly before now on some exfoliators. :/
